Pharyngitis is a disease of some part of the throat and sometimes referred to simply as sore throat tonsillitis. Pharyngitis is one of the most commonplaces of upper respiratory tract infections.
Simple acute pharyngitis is self-limiting and usually appears rather suddenly with a feeling of dryness and soreness in the throat.
The intensity of pharyngitis pain is quite variable and it is clear that streptococcal pharyngitis is associated with severe pain, while non-streptococcal pharyngitis is associated with significantly less pain.
Symptoms of illness are generally mild, except otherwise complicated. The disease clinically presents with sore throat (with or without white patches/exudates), red throat (erythema), high fever chills, runny nose, difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, malaise or general discomfort and headache.
