Sign and symptom of avian flu

Symptoms of avian flu infection in humans depend on the particular strain of virus. Healthy children and adults, as wells those with chronic medical conditions, have been affected.

While some infections have been limited to conjunctivitis and /or typical influenza symptoms, others were serious or fatal. About one or two days after exposures, flu symptoms come on suddenly, with shivering and generalized aching in the arms, legs and back.

The signs and symptoms may include fever, cough, sore throat, conjunctivitis and muscle aches.

Occasionally there may also be the symptoms of a stomach upset, with vomiting and diarrhea.

A cough appears on the second or third day, followed by a drop in fever with drenching sweats by the third to fifth day.

The symptoms and fever continue for two to five days and leave the patient feeling tired and weak. The H5N1 strains tend to cause high fever and upper respiratory symptoms resembling human influenza as the initial signs.

Infection with avian influenza viruses can also lead to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress and other severe and life threatening complications.

After the symptoms have subsided he or she may also depressed and fatigued. Young children may not have typical symptoms, but may have difficulty breathing and low activity.
